A family tradition forged in steel…AWI Manufacturing was established in 1970, by Art Scherping. Having worked on road crews himself, Art had experienced the hassles caused by poorly manufactured parts. Deciding he could do better, he started custom manufacturing his own - mainly to save himself time and frustration. With seven kids at home, and knowing that working on the road took him away too often, manufacturing stainless steel parts and selling them to the road crews just made good, logical sense. Art’s Welding, as it was then known, was born. As Art’s children grew up, they helped to grow the business. Working alongside their father, on install teams, or for machine shops, they honed the skills they would need to provide leadership of the company. In 2004, five of the seven purchased the company and renamed it AWI Manufacturing. A new generation, with solid roots in the industry, is taking AWI Manufacturing to new levels.
